About Author
Erni P. Kolopaking earned her Bachelor of Pharmacy Degree, and Pharmacist Professional Degree from School of Pharmacy, Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), in Bandung, Indonesia. Then in 1980 she started working as a hospital pharmacist and later on became the Head of Clinical Pharmacy for Dr. Soetomo Teaching Hospital in Surabaya, which has 1,750 beds, a teaching hospital for Airlangga University, and it is the top referral hospital for eastern part of Indonesia. She also served as a lecturer in Faculty of Pharmacy of Airlangga University, Gadjah Mada University and Ahmad Dahlan University in Yogyakarta, as well as an adjunct lecturer in several schools of pharmacy in Java, Sumatra, Bali, and Sulawesi islands, in 1980 - 2010.
During her early tenure at Dr. Soetomo Teaching Hospital, she was sent by the Indonesian Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization (WHO) to study Hospital Pharmacy Management in Nordic Countries and some of European Countries (Germany, French, and Switzerland); as well as Clinical Pharmacy Services, including Drug Information Services, and Cancer Pain Relieve and Palliative Care, in Australia and in the USA. Afterwards she became a frequent invited speaker in various seminars, conferences, workshops; consultant and trainer throughout hospitals and universities in Indonesia and ASEAN, for promoting the management and use of medicines rationally. She was also appointed as one of the WHO temporary consultants to determine the role of the pharmacists in the health care system, in New Delhi, India, 1988.
Furthermore, she was sent by the Indonesian Ministry of Health and the USAID, to study Pharmacoeconomics and Health Insurance System at the University of Southern California, in Los Angeles, California, USA, in 1999-2000.
Since 1993, she is maintaining a continuing working relationship with the College of Pharmacy, University of Arizona, Tucson, Arizona, USA, to improve the education of clinical pharmacy in Indonesia. She organized and led four International Conferences on Clinical Pharmacy in Jakarta (1994), in Bali (1997 and 2003), and in Surabaya (2008).
She was awarded The Donald C. Brodie Award in June 2003, given by the Board of Directors of International Foundation for Pharmacy Education (IFPE) in recognition of “The accomplishments in the development of exemplary educational programming and pharmacy services which have benefited pharmacy on a national and international basisâ€.
Her international project achievements were the cooperation with the Antibiotic Guidelines Sub-Committee, Antibiotic Guidelines/Victorian Drug Usage Advisory Committee, in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, in 1989-1990, where the results, among others were: the development of the First Dr. Soetomo Teaching Hospital Antibiotic Guidelines in 1990, and the First Indonesian (National) Antibiotic Guidelines 1992; and also the cooperation with the Dutch Government and Infectious Disease researchers to study “Antimicrobial Resistance in Indonesia, Prevalence and Prevention – AMRIN Studyâ€, in 2001-2006, in which she was awarded as “The Pioneer in Prudent Use of Antibioticsâ€, by the Dr. Soetomo Teaching Hospital - Indonesian Ministry of Health, in November 2014.
Her publications mainly on the topics of hospital pharmacy management, the pharmacy and therapeutics committee, drug information, cancer pain relieve and palliative care, drug use study, antibiotics use evaluation, and the role of pharmacists in the health care system.
Throughout her career, she was active in the Association of Indonesian Hospital Pharmacists (HISFARSI), and the Association of Indonesian Pharmacists (IAI), as well as member of The American Society of Health-System Pharmacist (ASHP), and Society of Hospital Pharmacist of Australia (SHPA).
In November 2010 - March 2015 she joined the School of Pharmacy, Management & Science University (MSU) in Shah Alam, Selangor Darul Ehsan, Malaysia, as the Head of Clinical Pharmacy Unit.
